Most mahjong sets look like they were made to be stored, not played.

We started craknbam because we kept hearing the same thing from players. The game had been part of their week for years, sometimes decades, but the set on the table was the same beige, forgettable box everyone else had. Something you put away in a closet, not something you were pleased to bring out.

So we make the other kind.

What we make

craknbam designs American Mah Jongg sets and the pieces that go with them: racks, mats, travel bags, dice. Every set holds a full 160 tiles, made up of 144 playing tiles, 10 jokers, and 6 blanks, ready for NMJL play straight out of the box.

Our artwork is drawn for craknbam and made for no one else. Emerald and jade. Mother-of-pearl and gold. Hand-drawn florals, art deco linework, deep ocean blues. Fifteen designs, and not a beige one among them.

Made to be played hard

A set that only looks good is only half a set.

Our tiles are built in four layers, with the artwork printed inside the tile and sealed beneath a clear protective coat, so it cannot rub off at the corners the way surface-printed tiles do. The face is then engraved, giving you a suit and number you can feel as well as see.

Each tile measures 1.26 inches across. That is deliberately larger than a standard tile, because a set is no use if the table has to squint at it. Everything sits in a weighted, solid hand. The kind of tile that makes a sound when you lay it down.

Play with it every week for years. That is what it is for.
